Calum, SPI is as far from Serial as... as far as cerial is from a mushy
banana.  :)

SPI uses 2 16-pin connectors (M/F F/M) on the moulding machine/robot, each
line has a specific designated signal and everything is dry-contact (relays)
at 24 VDC.  Its old, crude, clunky, but safe - and it works like a charm.
Signals like "Mould fully open", "Permit Ejector Retract", "Cores fully
pulled", "Robot clear of IMM", and "Hey!  I'm in the mould, don't squish
me!" etc...  :)

(...) No, it's a different SPI: (URL) MiniBoard (which the RCX was based on) has this thing called SPI, which allows you to link multiple Miniboards together. It is a serial protocol. What you're talking about sounds like a dry contact general (...) (20 years ago, 25-Nov-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)
