    Re: Thanks JeffE! —Derek Raycraft
   (...) 1280x1024 Who runs that. I'd like 2048x1536. Derek (21 years ago, 11-Mar-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

        Re: Thanks JeffE! —Calum Tsang
(...) Those of us with 17" monitors. I used to run 2560x1024 (Dualhead) with a matched pair of Trinitron CRTs but then Nortel took my right side monitor away. I figure I'll probably buy a 1280 or 1600 native LCD in a year or two when they get cheap (...) (21 years ago, 11-Mar-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

I'd run 1600x1200 on a 17". At work I'm currently (...) (21 years ago, 11-Mar-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

        Re: Thanks JeffE! —Calum Tsang
(...) At home it is a Dell 17" Trinitron on a Matrox G450 Dualhead. At work I have this IBM G78 17". It is the default "You're a Manager, You Get a T23 Laptop, Here's Our Corporate Standard for Laptops" monitor. Both I run 1280x1024 on. (...) Yes, (...)    (...) ...and who's going to come fetch you when you have a seizure from it droping to like 35 Hz? Iain (21 years ago, 11-Mar-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

        Re: Thanks JeffE! —Derek Raycraft
(...) Mine are running at at least 70 Hz. I think the 19" is 75 Hz. Quite acceptable. Derek (21 years ago, 11-Mar-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

        Re: Thanks JeffE! —Iain Hendry
(...) How!?!!? That makes me so angry. I try to go to 16x12 on this and it drops to like 60 Hz and gives me a headache. I can do 1280x @ 75 Hz without it balking but no higher. Argh!! Iain (21 years ago, 11-Mar-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

        Re: Thanks JeffE! —Calum Tsang
(...) The sync rates are determined by the electronics inside the monitor. More expensive monitors can do higher sync (and hence higher refresh) rates. Calum (21 years ago, 11-Mar-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

        Re: Thanks JeffE! —Derek Raycraft
(...) Really it's a combination of the video card and the monitor. The video card has to be able to generate the high sink rates, and the monitor needs to be able to display them. I selected both my monitors and video cards based on wanting (...) (21 years ago, 11-Mar-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

         Re: Thanks JeffE! —Calum Tsang
(...) Right, but almost ANY video card in the last five years can generate 1600x1200 in whatever refresh rate you want. The practical limitation is the monitor in Iain's and most people's cases. Calum (21 years ago, 11-Mar-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

         Re: Thanks JeffE! —Derek Raycraft
(...) You know I try to believe that, and keep getting surprised by the clunky old hardware that people run as their main computer. They complain that they can't do something. Then I say you should be able to. Then they say it doesn't work. Then I (...) (21 years ago, 11-Mar-04, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)
