(...) K, here's a question somewhat related... rtlToronto 'bot rules say that LEGO bricks cannot be modified in any way. IF it helps at all, you don't need to use 2x2 tiles. you are free to use any tile that covers the 4x4 area. many of my black blocks are 4 - 1x4's or a combination of 1x4 and 2x2.
