  For a good home...

...one IBM 6091-019 workstation monitor. 19" of .28 dp IBM AIX workstation goodness. A brute of a giant monitor. Slightly dim, but relatively still sharp at 1024x768. Perfect for a hackin' Linux box. Free to a good home...or the trash if no one (...) (18 years ago, 13-Jan-07, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

X-Mods on sale at Radio Shack

I'm not into them, nor do I know anything about them, but I remember a discussion a long while back about these 'X-Mod' thingies--glorified 'Snap-Together' motorized cars and such. ANyway, Radio Shack is (again) going out of business here in Canada (...) (18 years ago, 12-Jan-07, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: The difference between hobbyists and collectors...

(...) Note: as "a big fancy Dr. type smart guy", I can truely state that you should never, NEVER, confuse an advanced degree with intelligence. The two do not neccessarily correlate. Trust me on this, I have an advanced degree. (...) Huh. I never (...) (18 years ago, 12-Jan-07, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: The difference between hobbyists and collectors...

(...) Funny; when I first read that, I read 'all I ever wanted growing up was TO BE a pet monkey". I like my version better... it explains so much more about Chris :-). (18 years ago, 11-Jan-07, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: Newfound growth or splintering the existing base?

(...) I see what you mean by it, although I don't agree. By that line of thinking, BrickFest 2006 (held in a different venue, organized by different people, and more of an expo than a convention) wasn't an "original" BrickFest either. So there (...)   Re: Newfound growth or splintering the existing base?

(...) Sorry Kelly, but there is not going to be a BrickFest 2007. BrickFest PDX is not a replacement to the original Washington D.C. version. In 7 consecutive years of having a AFOL convention in the Metropolitan D.C. area, a convention that (...) (18 years ago, 11-Jan-07, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: The difference between hobbyists and collectors...

(...) LOL! "played"??? Nice try on a diversion tactic there, but I do believe in fair play. Which normally includes not calling someone out on something they never claimed in the first place. Here is a novel idea, try disputing the facts. Wink. (...) (18 years ago, 11-Jan-07, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: The difference between hobbyists and collectors...

(...) ya know... this ain't the FIRST time you played the oh-so-sweet, and innocent. we all know the truth. I have the REAL truth on my side. I am a patient man. I will be vindicated! Chris (18 years ago, 11-Jan-07, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: Newfound growth or splintering the existing base?

(...) One correction: BrickFest 2007 was not cancelled, it's being held in Portland on March 30 - April 1, 2007. Hope you can attend. - Kelly (18 years ago, 10-Jan-07, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: Newfound growth or splintering the existing base?

(...) Calum, I think the base needs to expand, not only to support the events and grow them, but to maintain the community. If I had a 2x4 brick for everyone that said on the LUGNET newsgroups that they were going to stop buying LEGO bricks or stop (...) (18 years ago, 10-Jan-07, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  Re: My first train7 project

  Re: Falkirk Wheel

That seems to be a roundabout way of doing what they've been doing in Peterborough for 100+ years-- (URL) course, to get this thing to work on the energy of 8 kettles, you close the gates manually and bail out a little water in the bottom (...)   Re: Hey Iian, These are your little duckies right??

But to watch him go through it is really a treat: Iain intrinsically knows the "feel" of pieces--eg, what will stick, just how much bracing something needs, that sort of thing. It (...)   Falkirk Wheel

(URL) this is what you need in the layout...not a piddly little boat lock :) And the fact that it only uses 1.5kWh of power (like boiling 8 kettles) to lift a boat is way cool. I'd plan a trip to Scotland just to see this bad boy... -Rob A> (18 years ago, 9-Jan-07, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)
