  Re: y'know what I miss....

(...) I always wondered how Steve got so tall. I thought it was just something genetic. ChiBots in Chicago has an interesting rule that I think adds to their events (they do run events again and again). The winner from the last event can't enter the (...)   Re: rtl21 ideas

(...) How about robots the have to go through a maze, you can have two identical mazes in the playing field and two robots run at the same time to see who gets the fastest run. It could also be a pretty good idea for a side game on the small play (...) (19 years ago, 8-Mar-06, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  Re: rtl21 ideas

(...) Yes, we've done it on an oval gradient track. Here's the link: (URL) the test track is a big problem. But there are several things that make it pretty cool. 1) Head to head 2) Fun to watch 3) Easy to enter 4) Doesn't require complex robot or (...)   Re: rtl21 ideas

(...) That was the idea--a standard card deck of encoded objects (eg, 2x8 blocks with various coloured pips). Janey suggested they be tacked to the walls of the playfield, others suggested on the ground, randomly, another idea was to put them in a (...) (19 years ago, 8-Mar-06, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  Re: y'know what I miss....

(...) I have two reasons for not doing this: a) it gets boring b) it grows Hassenplugs, who dominate competitions, which also get boring.* (...) But I do think we should return to Project Y some day. Not this year. Maybe next year. Give people a (...) (19 years ago, 8-Mar-06, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  Re: rtl21 ideas

(...) It's a technically difficult challenge, I agree, You're building the equivalent of a robotic tape silo on wheels--down to the barcode reader to read the tapes and the library mechanism to slot them around. But it's also boring as hell. Even (...) (19 years ago, 8-Mar-06, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  Re: rtl21 ideas

(...) How about stationary bots that you would "give" real cards to? i.e feed them into a slot when they request a hit and have them scan the pips. might need a standard card deck though. Oor skip the whole building part and just have th RCX's (...) (19 years ago, 8-Mar-06, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

  y'know what I miss....

we used to run the same competition consecutively. that way we would get to learn from the first competitoin to build a better 'bot for the next one--we would glean better ways of doing something and become better 'bot builders/programmers in the (...)   Re: rtl21 ideas

(...) <snip> The more I think about it, the more I'm drawn to this idea. As Janey stated, you can have as complex 'bot as you want--if you can get your block to pick up 1 'card' only, then you can enter with the hopes that everyone else busts--kinda (...)   rtl21 ideas

So... ...the next big topic is rtl21: What to Do. Let's recap some of the ideas from dinner: a) Blackjack concept from Janey (I mean...from Chris!) Drive around or use a shared environment and pick up encoded elements, teaching RCX to "gamble" such (...) (19 years ago, 8-Mar-06, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)
