Can you explain what is meant by "encoded elements?"  An extra bar code on the
cards?

That was the idea--a standard card deck of encoded objects (eg, 2x8 blocks with
various coloured pips).  Janey suggested they be tacked to the walls of the
playfield, others suggested on the ground, randomly, another idea was to put
them in a joint common airspace (eg, like C4)

Oor skip the whole building part and just have th RCX's communicate over IR.   The Dealer RCX would send the card values to the player RCX's  via a defined protocol, and diplay info on the screen.  That would make it a pure programming challenge and super boring for spectators.

Wow, like watching paint dry.  Or TCP stacks synack.  Grass grow.

Or drag racing outside the box.  Literally!  Put the playfield on the floor and
have the bots race around the playfield.

I would suggest an outer track marker of tape (white or black, whichever has the
best floor contrast).

I know others have done this on a gradient oval track (can't find the link right
now) so the racers can judge their relative positions, but most may not have
access to a large format printer required to make such a track for practice...

Hrm...(stares a cad plotter)....yes...

Rope with wood rungs, or all rope?

All rope.  Would that be too hard?

The inverse pendulum problem is an old one.  A 2-D version is quite hard.  I
would think an RCX with stock formware wouldn't be able to do it, and I will
speculate that most in RTLToronto arent up to learning legOS.

You'd be surprised.  Mario had it running for C4 for us.

I kind of like this idea....can we flesh it out some more?

We were trying to figure out what to fire and how.  One of the ideas was a TO
like target with a 2x2 block as the "arrow".

Same issue with the last cooperative game... "my but never put less than 2
blocks in other bots....but i got a poor score becauase noone else's bot got one
in mine!"

Right.  And who wants to be stuck with Chris on your team (I figure since he's
working hard these days I can take potshots at him while he's not on his PC)

:)

Some others:

Jenga
-shared airspace
-encoded wooden blocks
-have to read rules (apparently Sacha has!)

Hockey
-IR versus visible light puck?
-How to designate tracks/goals/starting positions

Calum

(...) Yes, we've done it on an oval gradient track. Here's the link: (URL) the test track is a big problem. But there are several things that make it pretty cool. 1) Head to head 2) Fun to watch 3) Easy to enter 4) Doesn't require complex robot or (...) (19 years ago, 8-Mar-06, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)
