(...) As it turns out it was just the registry that got hosed. Doesn't look like this is going to be fun to fix. The Mac about 8 hours to recover. Much of it just waiting for things to copy. I found this dirt on my Accord's hood: (URL) this tree sap? Or rust? Or something else? It doesn't seem to rub or scratch off (well, not with my finger nail) and doesn't wash off with water.
