Agreed. The series and OVAs reek of missed opportunity.

Patlabor 3 was crap though. It took the style of the Patlabor movies in
a new plodding, boring, and overall meanier (i.e. the more “adult” talk,
increased violence, etc.) direction.

Have to disagree here. The first twenty minutes, yeah, but the problem is more
that they used a slower style and assumed that the characters would garner
enough sympathy to carry the film. They don’t, quite, but W13 isn’t nearly as
bad as you make out. Not to say I’d buy it, or even rent it again...
Of course, that’s just my opinion. I also think the Appleseed OVA is garbage
(love the manga, though, with all my twisted fanboy heart), if that helps you
get a bead on my tastes.
