Adaptec Direct CD doesn't burn audio cds - it's a packet-writing package • that
allows you to dump data a little at a time on a cd till you're done with
it.

That's right. I always classify them all in the same package.

And its garbage, for the most part.  You're thinking of Adaptec Easy CD
Creator, mostly likely, which usually comes bundled with Direct CD.

OK, I have not used Direct CD at all, just Easy CD Creator.

He has Windows NT 4.0.  You're thinking of either Win9x or Windows 2000 -
there is nothing in the system control panel in NT 4 that resembles Device
Manager you're thinking of in 9x/2000.

Hmm.. the last time I worked with NT I thought it did. I guess I need to get
up to speed on Windows NT again. Speaking of which, does it run any better
on a network environment than Windows 9x?

with my Castlewood Orb drive, and I have to re-install it every now and
then. Is the CD-ROM from the factory, or did you install it?

I would say that this direct CD package had to install a UDF driver for • the
CDROM and that some how that got corrupted or corrupted the original • driver.
Reapplying the latest service pack might take care of it, then again it • might
not.  I've never had this happen before, not like this.

Probably. I have had a lot of problems with add on drives, from CD-ROMS to
Castlewood to the like, so it is nothing new to me. I am not up to speed on
Windows NT, but I hope to get a few classes in it soon. My classes start
next month, yeah! : ) I am definitely looking forward to the Novell classes,
I really need that!

If I remember correctly, Mike, you did get certification on NT from New
Horizons, didn't you? How was that?

(...) Depends on the hardware you're running it on, but yeah, I'd say NT is more functional network-wise than 9x. The tcp/ip printing alone makes it more valuable in my opinion, not to mention the increased stability. Not to say NT doesn't crash or (...) (24 years ago, 1-Jun-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)
