Cracking up.. replying to my own replies to my own messages.. Upgraded VPC to 3.0, which under VPN no longer uses the W95's manually set IP address, so there's no routing issue... worse, my router registers absolutely NO packets returning from the (...) (24 years ago, 24-Oct-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

(...) Ack, you got me started again... CURSE MICROSOFT! So, today I get approval for the VPN at work. The software says it only works with W98. I at least have W95 and they reassure me I'm ok. (...) Yeah. The scuttlebutt is that they (RoadRunner) consider a personal firewall to be a violation of their Terms Of Use--if "they" understand the issue beyond being scared of it. McLeod put in two fiber rings around the twin cities over a year ago, but still haven't made *DSL available to the public despite promises to have it ready by (...) Wow. After 6 months of DSL he** (Covad/Bell Atlantic) that failed to deliver even a copper wire, I got a sales call from Road Runner, and was up and running (ha ha) on a cable modem within 3 business days. AMAZINGLY, Covad's stock crashed by 55% (...) (24 years ago, 19-Oct-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)
