(...) i'm not sure, but you could check your entries in /proc/ioports, /proc/interrupts and or /proc/pci, and see if you find your modem in there. :) (...)   Newbie Linux Questions

Hi: I finally broke down and installed RedHat Linux on a spare HD on my PIII system (goodbye Bill!). My only previous experiance with Unix was when I was forced to be the system administrator for an HP-UX system running seriously mission critical (...)   Re: What system should I buy for Linux?

(...) Penguin Computing looks good to me (although I admit we've only got a couple of systems from them here so I don't have much personal experience with them a company). You can get a minimal-but-decent system for under $1000. Digging in the (...) (24 years ago, 31-May-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

What system should I buy for Linux?

I've decided I need another hobby, so I'd like to get a cheap-but-decent Intel compatible system to run Linux on. Problem is, I have no clue what the market for such systems is like. Some background on myself: I own several Macs at home, and have (...) (24 years ago, 31-May-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: Desktops with SCSI drives (was Re: Desktops with SCSI RAM?)

(...) Yeah, all of my experiances have been with single home machines, I am sure buying a whole department worth of machines is quite a different story. (...) I agree with you there.   Re: Desktops with SCSI drives (was Re: Desktops with SCSI RAM?)

(...) I didn't say anything about the machines themselves, I just relayed some experiences we'd had with the company at work. As a company Gateway is much easier to deal with when it comes to getting what you want in a desktop machine, in my (...) (24 years ago, 28-May-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: Desktops with SCSI drives (was Re: Desktops with SCSI RAM?)

(...) If have to agree with Mike you are always much better off if you buy your own parts and put it together. My current system was designed specifically for 2D graphics.   Re: Desktops with SCSI drives (was Re: Desktops with SCSI RAM?)

(...) Buying from ANY big name company like Dell or Gateway pretty much means you will not get everything you want the way you want it. Which is why I never buy prebuilt computers from places like that for my personal use. I used to build my own, (...) (24 years ago, 28-May-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: Desktops with SCSI RAM?

See, the promary reason I'm squarely on the SCSI side of this debate is that I've been a Mac dude for years; I've got piles of old SCSI drives lying around. Everytime I build a new (PC) box, I tend to use an inexpensive SCSI controller, and one or (...) (24 years ago, 27-May-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)
