Re: Shopping for a new PC...

(...) You can probably get student deals on Apple stuff (which would fit in well with what you want to use your system for). But even with the discounts, that may not be the most economical choice. I've personally been looking at Penguin Computing (...) (24 years ago, 4-May-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Shopping for a new PC...

All, I'm shopping for a new PC. My budget is <$4000, and I'm a student, so maybe I can get student discounts? I know I want a DVD-ROM and a CD-RW drive, but other than that I don't really know much other than I want it to be fast :) Stuff I use my (...) (24 years ago, 4-May-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: support & disclaimer on homepage

(...) Not neccessarily :) The slightly redundant '$' in '$x USD' led me to thinking that maybe it was there intentionally. At least in tcl, 'x' has a different meaning from '$x', ie -=-=- #!/usr/bin/tclsh set x 21 set $x "\$500" puts [set x] ;# (...)   New newsgroup lugnet.admin.nntp

A new group/list for NNTP[1]-related issues has just been created. Probably, you'll just want to ignore it unless you're writing a streaming news client or having difficulties getting your newsreader to do something. CHARTER/PURPOSE ===...=== -> (...)   Re: LugnetReader

(...) Oooh, good question. We really need some place to discuss it, esp. (right now) the spooler -> client API. (...) How releasable is your spooler? Good enough to let me work with it for my client?   LugnetReader

(...) Yep, thanks! BTW, it was noticeable from some NNTP-readers, too. I don't read through the web interface either. Is there a LUGNET discussion of LugnetReader somewhere? Will it be just for reading Lugnet (with Lugnet-specific hooks thrown in) (...) (24 years ago, 2-May-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: X server for windows

(...) Even then, I've got some bones to pick. :) The bit about the client server terminology, for example -- sure, it's a bit confusing, but their explanation is worse. (24 years ago, 2-May-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Putting streaming news client on Sourceforge

...But I gotta come up with a better (i.e. shorter) name for it! :-, Actually, my biggest hurdle is getting CVS to talk to Sourceforge's CVS server over SSH.
