  Re: Y2K bug in action

(...) I just finished reading William Gibson's "All Tomorrow's Parties" (Which, BTW,is a pretty good book, albeit with a weak ending.). In the book, one of the funny things that he postulates is that in the future, there pretty much will not be any (...) (25 years ago, 5-Jan-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Y2K bug in action

I saved my "web" on a zip disk and then did a complete re-install of Windows and Explorer (...) (25 years ago, 4-Jan-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: KDE/new Redhat install (was Re: Has anyone ever been)

(...) Very similar to my situation, actually. My friend wanted to start an ISP so he could have net access after college and not have to pay for it. There was a time a few years ago when it was possible. 56K modems really raise the bar, though; it (...) (25 years ago, 4-Jan-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: KDE/new Redhat install (was Re: Has anyone ever been)

(...) I don't know why but this reminds me of a guy I know via IRC who started up his own ISP literally in his own home using a Linux box and a handful of lines, providing service mainly to local teachers, with the initial goal being to simply pay (...) (...) Ah, ok. Well, aside from the fact that I treat all my clients/customers with respect, I agree. But I tried especially hard when I was in charge of the network support center for the students on campus and all our dial-up stuff. But even then, (...)
