    What is "powerful"? —Tore Eriksson
So I have a Pentium 450 with 12 Gb HD and 128 Mb RAM and Win98. It takes two minutes from power-on to have get a blank notepad window opened. Same thing takes less than a minute on my old Pentium 120 with Win95. It took less than 20 seconds from (...) (25 years ago, 27-Jun-99, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

(...) Isn't "progress" great? ;-) (...) Well, chalk that behavior up as being courtesy of your operating system vendor. They want booting and every other normal aspect of computing to be slower and slower each year so that you need to buy faster and (...)       (...) Anyone planning on taking a look at the $199 iToaster? (URL) only "bad" thing seems to be that you have to use their ISP, and it is $19.99 per month, which I guess is kinda average, but certainly a lot more than I pay (nothing). If there were (...)      (...) Boot up time issues aren't unique to Windows. I was always annoyed at how long OS/2 took to boot up at work. Now that I use AIX on an RS/6000, Windows and OS/2 start up instantly by comparison, though a large part of the slowness of AIX (...) (25 years ago, 28-Jun-99, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

(...) Is that a so-called "winmodem"? I was shopping for a modem not too long ago myself, but I almost exclusively found "winmodems", which are useless to me. I ended up with a second hand USR Sportster 33.6. What's wrong with winmodems? They're not (...) (25 years ago, 28-Jun-99, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

(...) True. I'm happy to say that I can get away with using Linux at least parts of the time. But I still need to fire up my DOS-partition to run LDraw and friends. BTW, do anybody know the solution for a current problem with my MSDOS system? When I (...) (25 years ago, 28-Jun-99, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)
