Re: Announcing Classic-Space Forums —Terry Prosper
(...) Can I ask why not simply post on Lugnet.space instead of creating a new website for the same purpose? The page header is awesome, nice work. Terry (20 years ago, 19-Dec-04, to lugnet.off-topic.fun, FTX)

Re: Announcing Classic-Space Forums —Steve Runnels
(...) The most important reason is because Lugnet has fallen behind, nothing has changed, it's time for a fresh start. Perhaps there's a lot going on in the background. I'd like to say I haven't given up on Lugnet entirely yet. Something that's key (...) (20 years ago, 19-Dec-04, to lugnet.off-topic.fun, FTX)

Re: Announcing Classic-Space Forums —Allister McLaren
(...) Moderation is a tricky skill to get right, and done wrong is far worse than a self-moderated forum. Are you up to it? (...) The spacers are getting a bad rap? News to me. Maybe it's just you. ;) I see a place for a separate website. I like how (...) (20 years ago, 19-Dec-04, to lugnet.off-topic.fun, FTX)

Re: Announcing Classic-Space Forums —Steve Runnels
(...) Absolutely. The mods will rule with unjust elitism! But seriously, the mods we have are well suited at making their points clear. If honesty is a bad thing, then so be it. (...) Well, perhaps that's not the best way to word it. And, after (...) (20 years ago, 20-Dec-04, to lugnet.off-topic.fun, FTX)

Re: Announcing Classic-Space Forums —Marc Nelson, Jr.
(...) I still haven't heard a good rationale for moderated forums other than "I want to be the boss". A good bit of the support for moderated forums seems to come from moderators (or those who want to be moderators). Is it that difficult to listen (...)         Re: Announcing Classic-Space Forums —Steve Runnels
(...) You caught us. That's the whole reason. Yup. (...) Just watch, see how often something will get moderated just because of disagreements. I can almost guarrantee that's not happening. On the other hand, being moderated, we don't have to put up (...) (20 years ago, 20-Dec-04, to lugnet.off-topic.fun, FTX)

Re: Announcing Classic-Space Forums —Marc Nelson, Jr.
(...) I'm still waiting for that rationale... (...) Aren't the "whiners" and "complainers" just people you disagree with? I'm sure they don't see themselves as whiners and complainers. (...) You guys started the Classic Space forums to appeal to the (...) (20 years ago, 20-Dec-04, to lugnet.off-topic.fun, FTX)

Re: Announcing Classic-Space Forums —Tom McDonald
(...) Perhaps you are rather waiting for somebody to say, "You're right!"? (...) No, they're not. A forum with rational discussion is the intent with CSF, just like it is with lugnet.space. But when it doesn't happen, it's nice to be able steer it (...) (20 years ago, 20-Dec-04, to lugnet.off-topic.fun, FTX)

Re: Announcing Classic-Space Forums —Steve Runnels
(...) No, actually, We've disabled registering for anyone under 13. The only exception we've made is for Nik, and that's with the consent of his dad, Lar. I don't know how you got that idea anyway. :/ (20 years ago, 20-Dec-04, to lugnet.off-topic.fun, FTX)

Re: Announcing Classic-Space Forums —Marc Nelson, Jr.
(...) Now THAT is a great feature, and something I'd love to see on LUGNET. I only mentioned the under-13 thing because the new people that C-C.com brags about bringing in seem to include a large proportion of non-adults.         Re: Announcing Classic-Space Forums —Leonard Hoffman
(...) Classic-Castle.com brags about bringing in new people of whatever age and maturity level. Many of the people CC has brought in are in the over 30 category. Also, many of the new people CC has are indeed in the 15-19 range, but NONE (...) (20 years ago, 21-Dec-04, to lugnet.off-topic.fun, FTX)
