You caught us. That’s the whole reason. Yup.

I’m still waiting for that rationale...

Is it that difficult to listen to people you don’t like or don’t agree with? I mean, if you only want to hear from someone who agrees with you, why not get off the internet and talk into a mirror?

Just watch, see how often something will get moderated just because of disagreements. I can almost guarrantee that’s not happening. On the other hand, being moderated, we don’t have to put up with the whiners, complainers, etc who have nothing worth while to say. That isn’t a huge issue on Lugnet, it’s there, but not as much as it will be on a new site that is probably also going to attract a different sort of crowd. But it’s for the best. It’s time to grow.

Aren’t the “whiners” and “complainers” just people you disagree with? I’m sure they don’t see themselves as whiners and complainers.

I will miss seeing all the great MOCs in .space, just as I lament the diminished traffic in .castle. As I said the last time this issue was raised, I guess some people would rather be a big fish in a small pond.

Firstly (assuming it does take off as much as we’re talking), you don’t have to miss out on space MOCs. There is a dedicated forum for publishing MOCs, and nothing else, here: http://classic-space.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=6 Also I’ve got a mod on the backburner to make the forums RSS capable, thus you won’t even have to go there, you can just have the MOC forum aggregated to the RSS reader of your choice.

And second, I’m glad you posted that link, otherwise I wouldn’t have found Lenny’s response to you: http://news.lugnet.com/space/?n=31857

Take the first part of his post and apply is to Space and you can easily see why this is a good idea.

You guys started the Classic Space forums to appeal to the 13-and-under crowd? You don’t get enough posts on your MOCs in .space saying “Hey, that’s really cool!”?

And then take the second part of that same post about Lugnet: There have been a few hints in that direction, but frankly, I haven’t seen enough to rationalize waiting around any longer.

So what exactly are your demands from LUGNET? Emoticons? Avatars? I’ve heard a lot of griping about LUGNET, but few concrete grievances.

The classic space forums actually existed shortly after that particular thread. But it was left undeveloped, because we were (still are) waiting on Lugnet to catch up. Have we jumped the gun? Is Lugnet’s true hayday just around the corner? Perhaps, but until then we’re going to do whatever we’ve got to do.

Another thing I’d like to add.. Perhaps the lego hobby (as we know it) is growing fast enough, that we NEED these seperations. Just a thought, haven’t really pondered it to a conclusion. At the same time we may need the seperations, we most certainly need a central point of interaction. And I expect Lugnet to fill that role for a long while to come.

How many AFOLs are online? A few thousand? Do we really need umpteen different forums for this little group of people to communicate with each other? If you feel LUGNET is too big to handle, why not just add a bunch of newsgroups to your skip-filter?

I love all the content at Classic-Castle.com - the contests, the archives of building techniques, etc., and I’m sure I will enjoy that kind of stuff from Classic-Space.com. But I can’t see the need for other forums when LUGNET does that job so well - other than some people’s need to be an chief rather than an indian.
