I mostly agree with Dave here... so I snipped most of it.

and disruptive interjections from atheists ("but who created the
creator then?") don't help.

I don't see this as disruptive, not at all. I think if you're going to say
"here is the explanation to everything", that a counter argument pointing
out that the explanation doesn't actually explain everything is in fact
quite relevant.

But the base point Dave makes, that ultimately acceptance of creationism is
a matter of faith, is an important one. As I've said, I'm baffled why the
creationists are trying to prove their theory has merit scientifically when
it so clearly does not fit the facts.

I've made my peace with those who say "I've decided to believe things are
this way". That's their choice, and as long as they don't impose their
belief system on me, that's fine. But when someone claims science is wrong,
or generally accepted scientific theories are incorrect, they need to expect
to be shredded on a scientific basis, which is exactly what has happened
here. As usual.

Again, Dave's point is that sparring about the details misses the
fundamental point. I'd like to see some discussion of that. Creationists,
why persist in the fantasy that your theory is the most probable explanation?

(...) Me either :^) (...) I think a lot of time is wasted disputing points (eg fossils) rather than more general arguments (eg whether scientific observation of Evolution is based on faith or theory). The misleading distortions of the Creationists (...) (24 years ago, 29-Jan-01, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)
