Well, my post seems to have shut down some of the pointless shouting,
and there seems to be some interesting debate starting to creep from
under the rocks it dove for cover behind... I'm still going to let it
chill for a while and see if this (2nd) call to arms gets those who have
been dragging the debates down into the sewer will acknowledge (even if
only to themselves) what they're doing and cut it out.
It's also brought out some good thought from folks that they want a good
debate forum, which is good. If people want a good debate forum, it's
got a better chance of happening.

Not that we should need Todd to step in, but a "cool it" from Todd would
probably be pretty universally respected (and Todd has rarely
participated in .debate).
We could institute our own version of the Nazi rule (oops, I just lost
this debate, oh well...), though how to characterize the Christian
shouting without squelching constructive use of religion in debate
(which has occurred, though it often opens the hole for the Christian
shouters to step in).
