Throwback?
I'm pretty sure I had to get a blood test when I got married way back in the
dark ages of 2000. The way I understood it was to make you aware of any Rh
incompatibilities - which can be an still issue as far a having children
(Rh-positive mothers w/Rh-negative babies).
But what do I know, I'm still living in a cave. ;)

Its the other way around, with Rh- mothers and Rh+ babies, since the Rh factor is a dominant trait, and an Rh+ mother cannot conceive an Rh- baby (barring extreme and unlikely genetic mutation, that is).
