I found this article to be somewhat inaccurate.

For example, it states that more than 40% of academic posts are held by
women.  This is far from the truth.  In the Universities, the vast
majority of the higher academic positions are still held by men.
Academic posts are generally held by the same people for an extended
period of time, hence, achieveing a balance of sexes in the Universities
takes a long time.

Also, it is not true that people generally leave their homes unlocked.
You will find this in smaller cities and rural areas, but not in major
cities.  I certainly lock my door, both when home and when away.

The social security system will be harder to maintain as the years go
by, as we are expecting the post WWII large generations to reach pension
age soon, while the generations still working are much smaller.  Some
think that the petroleum fund should be renamed "the pension fund",
which will partially solve this problem, and also make it harder to use
from the oil fund.  It remains hard to keep the politicians hands off
the oil fund, as most of the general population don't understand why we
can't simply unload this pile of money to solve all of the problems in
Norway in one single stroke.

The oil fund also makes the economical politics hard to maintain.  We
are sort of balancing on the edge of strangling the internal economy
with high interest rates, and killing off the export industry with high
inflation.

Still, the article certainly does a good job at describing life in
Norway.  Keep in mind, though, that the sun sets at 3PM only for a
couple of months, not for half a year.  And during summer, the sun
barely sets at all.

(...) This is a false argument; there is no country which is "free in all senses of the word". Just like there is no country which is completely socialist or completely free market. (...) I agree; the centre-left approach to life in Norway, Sweden (...) (21 years ago, 19-Sep-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)
