This depends heavily on where you go to. If you go above the Arctic
Circle, the sun never sets during mid-summer. In Oslo, which is around
the 60° Nothern latitude, the sun sets for around three hours in summer,
but with the sun just beneath the horizon, it never gets entirely dark.
The sun never gets too high on the sky during daytime, though, since we
are so far north. So I'd say you'd still get more tan close to the
Equator.
On the flipside, though, you don't get any sun at all during winter
above the Arctic Circle. In Tromsø, for example, which is one of the
largest cities up north, the sun sets on November 25th, and is not seen
again until January 17th. And during summer, it's never dark in June
and July.
The movie "Insomnia", recently remade in Hollywood starring Al Pacino,
is based on an original movie filmed in Tromsø during the summer.

| (...) <snip> (...) I've wanted to visit a few places in the world since I was a kid--Austailia, Denmark, others... Now Norway's on the list. Sun barely sets at all in the summer? Think of the tan! :) Dave K (21 years ago, 19-Sep-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)
