Because of their *own* self-interest. They don't give a rat's patootie about
the Iraqi people. What say we let the people of Iraq decide their own destiny.

Are we causing the misery in Iraq right now? You could say yes, but then, if
Saddam had chosen exile, then we wouldn't be doing what we're doing. I am
confident that, in the long run (1000 mile stare, remember?) this will be seen
as a Good Thing (tm).

Everyone seems to forget that Bin Laden tried to blow up the WTC before under
Clinton. We have been a target, if not for pure propaganda's sake, for a
loooong time.

I know you don't, Neville. Since I know how fond you are of quotations, this
well-used one is for you:
"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."
The parallels to Hitler in the thirties and Saddam today are striking. In your
stubborn attempt to cling to peace, you will destroy the very thing you seek to
preserve.
The dirty little secret is that peace through strength works. America's best
defense against threats to her security is the knowledge by her enemies,
especially enemies that are culturally 5 centuries behind the times, that
aggression against her *will* result in massive retaliation. Only when they
see that we have lost our stomach to vigorously defend our freedom and liberty
will they dare attack.
The greatest threat to our security is appeasement and complacency. *We* know
what's best for America-- not the UN, or the French, or Germans, or the rest of
the world combined.
There is a lot more I could say, but I have reached the end of my desire to
carry on this rather fruitless discussion. As a debater, Richard, you are
without class, and I shall not be engaging you again. *I* forgot the past and
I was doomed to repeated it:-p
In closing (and when I say closing, I mean it) I wish to say that I am very
proud to have Britain and Australia (and Denmark!) among others as our allies.
Tony Blair has proven to me to be quite a remarkable leader, and I am very
grateful for his steadfast support. I honestly believe that this conflict will
end with many good things coming from it, and those who died for the cause of
freedom will not have died in vain. We owe a debt of supreme gratitude to them
for their ultimate sacrifice so that we may remain free.
