I *might* believe the former, but not the latter as much. I am willing to
believe that the U.S. govt. supported a plan that they were not fully aware
of ala "The Tailor of Panama."

Of course, I agree totally with this part. But what makes you so sure that
all the teeny tyrannies don't sometimes align their collective powers to
achieve a common end?
Anyway, if the loss of the Common Law at the federal level, and the mere
existence of the Federal Reserve and our current tax system is not evidence
of something illegal, and far-reaching then I am not sure I shall ever be
able to produce an example to your satisfaction. The case law on taxation is
a fascinating read to say the least...also interesting to follow the players.
Could those things have happened with an educated and politically active
population of americans? Why does everyone just brush it off? Why does it
seem okay when every legal expert with whom I have ever discussed the matter
seems to agree that there is a great wrong underfoot operating as the law?
[Here I refer to the handful of professors I had back at law school.]
Still, gotta love that U.S. (in theory). Happy Thanksgiving debaters!

And I have no doubt whatever that (to pick one facet) (...) (23 years ago, 22-Nov-01, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)
