Indeed. I was listening to the radio for several hours That Day, and many of
the stations were just carrying the TV network news. Amazing gaffes. Amazing
resistance to listening to the answers to questions they asked and using
what was said to ask a better question.

One in particular who I think is more clueless than most is Dan Rather. He
had James Woolsey on and was fixated on the question "will there be finger
pointing". Woolsey gave some great analysis. Rather asked the question
again, Woolsey said no, gave some more great analysis. Rinse, lather, repeat
about 3 more times. Rather hangs up on Woolsey, cutting him off and claiming
that it's a technical problem then intones "we just heard from James Woolsey
who agrees that there will be a lot of finger pointing after this".

Yes or the press conferences with the New York mayor:

Mayor: our first priority is to resuce and search for people
Reporter 1: Whats the body count upto?
Mayor: we're not interested in that, we're concerned about finding people
Reporter 2: How many people died?
Mayor: There are people we can resuce first before thinking about that?
Reporter 3: so again? body count?

Its no wonder that the press are sometimes called "The filth". To me it was
borderline to them behaving very opportunistically to the events. For
goodness sakes, listen to the guy talking, they'd be amazed what wealth of
information is available if they listened to what was being said for a change.

*sorry if i appear to be frivolous in attacking the media, but its them that
we rely on to obtain information from such a distance.

(...) Rudy rocks. They ought to draft him for another term. Most level headed politician we have. But I digress. :-) (...) Not a frivolous attack at all, IMHO. It's amazing how easy it is to ignore the actual answer to your question when you are so (...) (23 years ago, 18-Sep-01, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)
