*sigh* Not only wrong for attacking a fellow American,
but too ignorant even to know who the target of his hate
was. Not, of course, that the perpetrator cared. :(
I did some shopping last night at the nearby Indo-Pak
grocery, and everyone in the store looked at me nervously as
I walked in and continued to do so until it became obvious
that I was, in fact, shopping. [1] I can't say I blame them,
given the hundred-plus bias incidents already recorded here
in NJ. (Thankfully only one or two have been physical.)
I keep wanting to say "I'm sorry" to any Muslim or Sikh I
meet--but it seems just as wrong to assume they're under
assault as it is for them to expect to be assaulted, and
I don't want to condescend because they're just as American
as any other US national.

[1] I hadn't been in there for about a month, but I have
never before received that sort of attention. Once I
was clearly in the customer category, though, everyone
was as pleasant as I'm used to.

| Those boneheads that are commiting hatefule acts against innocent citizens should be punished by forcing them to do a tour of duty. Let *them* be in the front lines if/when we have any ground battles. Julie (...) (23 years ago, 16-Sep-01, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)
