Re: WAY WAY O.T. Blockbuster Rant and a call to arms

(...) I'm probably one of about a dozen people on the planet that are amused by those commercials. Initially, I failed to connect the ads to the advertised. Someone had to point out to me that they were for Blockbuster. I'm fascinated by the weird (...) (22 years ago, 5-Jun-02, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Re: USA soccer team at the World Cup....

(...) Not yet... :-P (...) Not really, no (I speak for me). I feel bad because we played with a team that ought to have spent more time on sick leave - they were *dragging* on the field! We deserved to lose, end of story. (...) :-) We do. It's a (...) (22 years ago, 5-Jun-02, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Re: USA soccer team at the World Cup....

(...) Well, we played poorly and DESERVED defeat. But I see you have only *two* goals to bragg about, US #3 and #4 (which was the best in the match ;-) (...) You have seen little, then. The match was *null*, and I'm not just saying this 'cause we (...) (22 years ago, 5-Jun-02, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Re: USA soccer team at the World Cup....

(...) Easy there, champ. There are some Portuguese who read LUGNET and I'm sure they feel badly enough having lost to the lowly Americans. We Americans *don't* take our soccer that seriously, so lighten up, Francis;-) -John (22 years ago, 5-Jun-02, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

USA soccer team at the World Cup....

I know a lot of people in the States could give a flying whatsit and a rolling doughnut about the World Cup (or US soccer in general). But I have only one thing to say after the fantastic USA vs. Portugal game.... EAT IT PORTUGAL!!!!!! : )P USA-3 (...) (22 years ago, 5-Jun-02, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Re: WAY WAY O.T. Blockbuster Rant and a call to arms

Bad form to respond to self but: Blockbuster issue resolved by Higher Power. No, the manager wasn't hit by a bus (although that would be altogether acceptable), my girlfriend paid the store a visit. There were no problems after that. I expect that (...) (22 years ago, 5-Jun-02, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Re: WAY WAY O.T. Blockbuster Rant and a call to arms

(...) Although, I only rented from a blockbuster once(1) in my life, I can sympathize with your distrust of this corporate entity. Maybe a better boycott would be because of that egotistical hamster and his bunny friend carl and their antics that (...) (22 years ago, 5-Jun-02, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Re: WAY WAY O.T. Blockbuster Rant and a call to arms

In lugnet.off-topic.debate, Kyle Beatty writes: Hi Kyle, I think you sound a bit steamed and should take a bit of time to calm down. If it makes you feel any better though I have been boycotting Blockbuster for years (although for reasons having (...) (22 years ago, 5-Jun-02, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Re: WAY WAY O.T. Blockbuster Rant and a call to arms

I ran into a problem when two Blockbuster stores basically had the same DVD under two different policies - I'll skip the long explanation of the events and policies beyond I talked with the local area manager and he fixed everything in a gracious (...)   WAY WAY O.T. Blockbuster Rant and a call to arms

(Please forgive me for taking up your valuable time, but I feel that my comrades in Lego should know what can go on at a large (overly-large perhaps) and ubiquitous retailer.) Blockbuster claims that I failed to return a DVD. They are in error. (...) (22 years ago, 5-Jun-02, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: Lego and the NBA

(...) I'll never be able to understand what went through LEGO designers' heads when they chose this colour scheme to depict Portugal and Spain: neither team has this gear, nor even similar ones! (...) 10? (wild guess :-) (...) Predominantly, they (...) (22 years ago, 4-Jun-02, to lugnet.sports, lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: Lego and the NBA

(...) Well, to be fair, right here: (URL) (Spanish, Portuguese) (URL) (Brazilian, Mexican, Argentinian) Even if they don't have a 'fig with Pele's number (which I don't recall off the top of my head), it's clear that these are not predominantly (...)   Re: Lego and the NBA

(...) Okay, first of all, think "The Simpons"; Sure, people aren't really yellow, yet they have designated three or so colors for different ethicities. Lego should follow suit. Second - as many colors as Lego currently has, I don't think it would (...) (22 years ago, 4-Jun-02, to lugnet.sports, lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: Does Political Correctness Kill?

(...) Hardly. It was an interesting article so I posted a link. (...) Not sure I agree. We have a culture of the media second guessing everything lately... no one wants to be vulnerable in any way. It was evident in the Clinton administration even (...) (22 years ago, 2-Jun-02, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: Does Political Correctness Kill?

(...) Thanks! I do get a warm fuzzy when you display your innate friendliness that way. :-) (...) Is this your way of claiming those nations score a perfect '10' on the human rights-o-meter? (...) All societies bear some of what I was calling evil. (...) (22 years ago, 2-Jun-02, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: Does Political Correctness Kill?

(...) So basically you're the off-topic troll, eh Lar? =) I can't agree that our govt. is suffering from an excess of political correctness and that this is preventing people from doing their jobs -- that's just foolishness. The James Woods story (...) (22 years ago, 2-Jun-02, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: Does Political Correctness Kill?

(...) Mostly the latter. But since you asked, I think there's something to what he says while at the same time agreeing with most if not all of your dissection. Not a very well formed opinion, I admit. (22 years ago, 2-Jun-02, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: Does Political Correctness Kill?

In lugnet.off-topic.debate, Christopher L. Weeks writes: <big snip> (...) Speaking of flakey, since we were, indeed, speaking of flakey writers... Too much evil? In the UK? In Germany today? Okay then... I know that Israel has a little skirmish (...) (22 years ago, 2-Jun-02, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: Does Political Correctness Kill?

(...) political correctness and fair treatment are significant. It seems that Mr. Steyn thinks that because various federal agencies dropped the ball, we should hassle all Saudis. I don't buy it. For the same reason that I'm offended by blacks (...) (22 years ago, 2-Jun-02, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)
