"Shifty" rip off brand -- can they get away with this?? —Chris Lyman

I was glancing thru a dollar-shop in lower-mainland British Columbia, Canada, a couple days ago when I saw some small LEGO sets for sale, the kind that usually go for $4 or $5 US. They were being sold for only $1 a piece; they had a set of a couple (...) (25 years ago, 25-Jul-99, to lugnet.off-topic.clone-brands)

(...) Apart from the printing, and the copy-right issues, how were the elements themselves? Did they compare in quality to Mega Bloks, or Best-Lock? Can you actually use them well with LEGO elements? (...) Not really. We (Maria & I) are both avid builders, and one reason to go to Canada was to take advantage of the exchange rate, and find some good deals in Mega Bloks. Sorry I didn't provide more information right off, but this was my first post to the LEGO-related newsgroups so I wasn't aware exactly what was expected. Even with these scans I remain skeptical. Until the orginal poster comes through with more specific info about the purchase, I withhold judgment. I have 2 or three of these in the flesh and they are terrible. I got one as a gift from a very kind person who knew I would find them interesting and the other two I traded for at the LL Legofest, they were brought over from Japan, so they've been (...)
