Re: Supply and demand —Frank Filz
(...) Garage sale prices should NEVER be assumed to have anything to do with the true "value". The value is always what people will pay for an item, given reasonably complete knowledge of the market. eBay prices are perhaps some of the closest to (...)         Re: Supply and demand —James Brown
(...) Hmm. I agree that re-releasing old sets would make the bottom drop out of the reseller market, but I don't necessarily think that it would mean LEGO would suddenly sell gazillions of them. I mean, we all hunt dilligently for the sale, right? (...) (25 years ago, 14-Dec-99, to lugnet.market.theory)

Re: Supply and demand —Scott Arthur
(...) My mother is a antique/collectable dealer. Many porcelain manufactures occasionally re-release older models (from the original molds) and date them accordingly. These have the effect of actually increasing the price of the original, as Joe (...) (25 years ago, 14-Dec-99, to lugnet.market.theory)

Re: Supply and demand —James Brown
(...) I would posit that 90% of the time, the people buying old Lego sets aren't "true collectors". Most AFOL's don't collect things to say they have them, they collect so that they can build more stuff. I'm sure there are people who do both, but I (...)           Re: Supply and demand —Erin Windross
(...) know (...) or (...) Why doesn't TLG (LC?) release the Metroliner not as a set but as seperate sets! e.g 4xxx Front engine, 4xxx Passenger car, 4xxx baggage car, 4xxx Sleeping car, 4xxx Observation car, 4xxx double engine, 4xxx Train Link (...)            Re: Supply and demand —Richard Marchetti
(...) What a brilliant idea! Even better, why not just sell the parts you can't get from some sets? Example: Tudor Walls and corners in red and yellow, Guarded Inn signs, Old castle Babes, a 1x3 red arch, etc. You get the idea... We can fill in the (...)            Re: Supply and demand —Steve Bliss
(...) That's a *great* idea! And make a set of the basic oval-track and transformer as well, so peole can buy that if they need it. (...) LOL! Steve (25 years ago, 15-Dec-99, to lugnet.market.theory)

Re: Supply and demand —Erin Windross
(...) sets! (...) Well lets just hope with this new Lego Direct, the idea will become reality. (...) Don't they already have that? Erin -- In a recent poll 36% of minifigs said that a large BURP came out of a Coca Cola drink. (...) (25 years ago, 15-Dec-99, to lugnet.market.theory)

Re: Supply and demand —Steve Bliss
(...) Just the oval and transformer (and wires and wall wart)? I don't think so... You can buy all the various pieces, but not as a single unit. Steve (25 years ago, 16-Dec-99, to lugnet.market.theory)

Re: Supply and demand —James Powell
(...) know that if I ever bored with it, I can sell it on to some other fool for more or less the same price... I do not really think it is worth $190. (...) You are a fool to think that it has a value of $190. Really, it has a value of whatever (...) (25 years ago, 14-Dec-99, to lugnet.market.theory)

Re: Supply and demand —Richard Marchetti
(...) <snip> How do you REALLY know that you have an old brick versus a new brick. I think Lego is not quite the same thing as old vinyl -- whose disk and cover can be verified often by dates right on the labels and so forth. (...) My point exactly, (...)         Re: Supply and demand —Bryan Wong
(...) Honestly, I don't think LEGO will re-release old sets... Most people won't know that "set A" on the shelf is actually "4558 from 1991." Therefore, there's not much of a point for LEGO to do something like that. There may be others, but is 2150 (...) (25 years ago, 14-Dec-99, to lugnet.market.theory)

Re: Supply and demand —Jeff Thompson
(...) They already missed the golden opportunity to rerelease sets - they could have rereleased the best of the classic space sets as "20th anniversary sets." The parents who were 8 years old when they first played with those sets would want to buy (...) (25 years ago, 14-Dec-99, to lugnet.market.theory)

Re: Supply and demand —Steve Bliss
(...) There were also the Celebration Truck and Legoland CA Truck sets. Same model, different colors (and stickers). True S@H exclusives -- I don't think Canada even got these. Steve (25 years ago, 15-Dec-99, to lugnet.market.theory)

Re: Supply and demand —Tom Stangl
(...) it (...) The Celebration truck (2148) first appeared in Europe, so it isn't truly a S@H exclusive, but AFAIK, it was pretty rare in Europe, only sold with the truck tour. The LLC truck (3442) is US S@H only, AFAIK (and it's a REALLY nice set (...) (25 years ago, 15-Dec-99, to lugnet.market.theory)

Re: Supply and demand —Kevin Wilson
Canada S@H has both these trucks (2148 and 3442) so neither are US exclusive. Of course Canadian S@H is closing down Dec 17th. Kevin (25 years ago, 16-Dec-99, to lugnet.market.theory)

        Shutting Down? —Bryan Wong
(...) What, shutting down? Is the Canadian S@H shutting down for good? Why??? I give them so much business! :) Bryan (25 years ago, 16-Dec-99, to lugnet.market.theory)

        Re: Shutting Down? —James Brown
(...) It's being amalgamated with S@H US, and a whole bunch of other stuff and getting called LEGO Direct(1). The bottom line for us is that we now call the same number as US folks. James (URL) (25 years ago, 16-Dec-99, to lugnet.market.theory, lugnet.loc.ca)
