I to recently had an unexpectedly good experience at one of my local Targets
while scooping up tons of cheap Lego. It was the second target we hit that
day, and as me and my brother are unloading my two carts full of 50% off
lego onto the checkout, the checkout-girl seeing that we had a large order
asked if we wanted to save 10% by signing up for a Target card.
Not wanting to be there all night, or to hold everyone behind me up, I asked
how long it would take. After being assured that it would only take a
couple minutes, I agreed. She gave me an application to fill out and
continued to ring up my merchandise.
I filled out the form and she called over the manager to approve it, and
continued on with the ringing. The manager checked my ID andn then took the
application to her office to enter it in the computer. Meanwhile my order
is done. I'm looking at the line behind me and thinking "Oh my, these
people are going to eat me alive" when the cashier calmly says "I'm going to
suspend your order and take care of these people behind you, OK?".
Now, this is not unheard of. The registers as McDonalds could hold multiple
orders when I worked there 15 years ago. But I had never seen this at an
actual store. After being stuck in K-Mart lines for an eternity behind
someone while they try to find a price on something, consider me amazed by
this!
But it gets even better! After the manager returns with my completed
application and approval code, instead of tying up the cashier and the
register, she took me over to one of the unused registers, pulled my order
up on that register, and completed the transaction. I'd like to see that
happen at K-Mart!
Now, all of this may seem simple, or that I'm getting excited over the
simple things. But contrast this to my experience at my local K-Mart where
if the cashier screws something up on your sale, they can't even fix it
themselves! They make you go to customer service and wait in line again to
fix THEIR mistake. And believe it or not, i've had the customer service
desk even screw up the correction!
So, I just think it's nice to see that atleast SOMEONE has their head out of
their @$$ when it comes to checking out people as quickly and efficiently as
possible. My hats off to Target.
