Maybe it's because there are more big pieces in 8458? One of those funky
body panels is going to cost a lot more than a simple friction peg.
The 8448 has 8 of the body panels. It looks like the 8458 has 18,+/-2.
And the silvery plastic may be more expensive to deal with.
Or the price difference could be a reflection of LEGO moving to a higher
pricing structure.
