  Caldors: going out of business

I hadn't seen any announcements to this effect on the groups, so here it is: as near as I can tell, the retail chain of Caldors (New England area) is either going completely out of business or closing all of their stores in the Boston area. All toys (...) (26 years ago, 21-Feb-99, to lugnet.loc.us.ma.bos, lugnet.market.shopping)

  Re: Star Wars Mania

*snip* to make general comment: Personally, I'm dying to see the size of the initial shipment to major retailers. Did they gamble high, or low-ball it? Insectoids, a non-licensed theme, got a pretty healthy rollout at TRU last spring. On the plus (...) (26 years ago, 21-Feb-99, to lugnet.market.shopping)

  Re: Star Wars Mania

They might not WANT to give them too much shelf space, as the shelves will be empty most of the time. They'd be better doing an endcap or 3, stacking them deep and high, and refilling often. Bare shelves sell less than well-stocked ones (not meaning (...) (26 years ago, 20-Feb-99, to lugnet.market.shopping)

  Re: Star Wars Mania

(...) Yup. Something tells me the Target stores that seem to be so miserly with shelf space after Christmas might just give Lego stuff half an aisle or more once the SW sets hit. They'd be fools not to. (26 years ago, 20-Feb-99, to lugnet.market.shopping)

  Star Wars Mania

"Opportunistic Marketing 101" or "Let the Mania Begin" Just came from the local Zany Bainy which had a nice end unit display of old AMT plastic X-Wing and TIE fighter models. What was the end unit anchoring? Why, the Lego aisles of course! Can you (...) (26 years ago, 19-Feb-99, to lugnet.market.shopping)

Re: FS: 7110 Star Wars LandSpeeder

(...) No way they'll be available here for another few months. I _still_ wouldn't pay it, but then, _I_'m not a die-hard SW fan. Jasper (26 years ago, 19-Feb-99, to lugnet.market.shopping)

(...) [snip] (...) I think it's substantially different. He was straight about it's value. They guy on eBay portrayed it as rare, didn't he? Are they available world-wide right now? Perhaps international buyers would consider that a bargain. (26 years ago, 18-Feb-99, to lugnet.market.shopping)

  Re: Sorry

The price is not all that out of line IMO. Some foreign sets sell at 4 to 6 times the actual cost right after they come out. I think you are doing a favor to anyone who might want the set, especially non US residents who have much longer to wait, (...) (26 years ago, 18-Feb-99, to lugnet.market.shopping)

  Re: Sorry

Sorry for posting in the wrong group. It was a mistake. I know better. It was late and I did not pay attention to what I was doing. I am also sorry if I offended anyone with the post. I preordered two complete Star Wars sets in January. I am keeping (...) (26 years ago, 18-Feb-99, to lugnet.market.shopping)
