One thing I do every time is try to find a damaged box, even if it's just a tear in the box or a dent or something, then ask the department manager if there's a discount on damaged boxes. If sets haven't sold after they're discontinued for 4 or 5 years is plenty of time to think about discounts, and by then they're snapped up to resell to Americans... viz. the recent rash of 8880's from my country, the (...) I just dropped 500 bucks at the Target on 8 mile E of Van Dyke. Target's clearance of Lego sets they no longer carry is roughly 55% off as of today in most areas of the country (there is, strangely, one Target in my area that hasn't updated their price database as of tonight... too busy or lazy, I guess).
