I agree that it's not a critical concern for most people.
The main advantage is a smooth and reliable system to avoid the
redundant and inefficient "someone send me an address" posts.
Of course, whenever you implement a system that holds a users
personal info (email, postal, name etc.) you want to do it in a
way that safeguards privacy. Even if it doesn't seem necessary,
it's "good practice" to do it that way.
