(...) Close enough.....$3.50 CAD just so the post office can "stamp" a piece of paper saying it is worth $10 USD! (23 years ago, 2-Feb-01, to lugnet.loc.ca)

Re: Doh! Canada is expensive... —Richard Noeckel
(...) I'm assuming that the $3.50 is for the possessing of a U.S. money order; cause American stamps simply costs $.60! Try using the Royal Bank, they don't charge the processing fees that some banks do on creating foreign money orders. P.S. I know, (...) (23 years ago, 2-Feb-01, to lugnet.loc.ca)

Re: Doh! Canada is expensive... —Heather Patey
(...) I have a US Borderless account at Canada Trust, which includes free money orders for $4.95 a month. (They charge $3.50 otherwise, same as the post office.) I just did a quick look around to see what the other banks charge - not easy to find! (...) (23 years ago, 2-Feb-01, to lugnet.loc.ca)

Re: Money orders, was:Re: Doh! Canada is expensive... —Kyle D. Jackson
(...) G'day Heather, For the banks, are these regular money orders or international? The one from CanadaPost is by default an international money order. The ones from the bank may not be, but might just be drawn in US currency. I've heard of sellers (...) (23 years ago, 3-Feb-01, to lugnet.loc.ca)

Re: Money orders, was:Re: Doh! Canada is expensive... —Heather Patey
(...) Well, that's a good question. The Canada Trust money orders are good in the US; indeed, I thought they all were. I've occasionally received MO's from the US that say right on them, "Not negotiable outside the US and Possessions", and (...) (23 years ago, 3-Feb-01, to lugnet.loc.ca)

Re: Money orders, was:Re: Doh! Canada is expensive... —James Brown
(...) The MO's that Canada Trust uses are not "international" per se, but the are US money orders, and cashable anywhere in the US. I'm not certain of the gory details, but in effect, they are drawn against a US bank - you may or may not have (...) (23 years ago, 3-Feb-01, to lugnet.loc.ca)

Re: Money orders, was:Re: Doh! Canada is expensive... —Heather Patey
(...) OK, yes, I've seen the Delaware inscription. I meant "international" meaning "outside Canada", which isn't exactly right. So Kyle's MO's from Scotiabank may be drawn on a Canadian bank instead of a US one? Curious. I can see them being no good (...) (23 years ago, 4-Feb-01, to lugnet.loc.ca)
