Falling to the dark side —Richie Dulin
It all started innocently enough, I thought that I could just alter some minifig faces to improve them, or differentiate them, by scraping off some of the factory paint with a craft knife. I built a mini-me, removing the microphone from a Divers (...) (23 years ago, 5-Jul-01, to lugnet.loc.au)

(...) Naw, much of what you describe sounds useful to me. If I had a rule of thumb to suggest it would simply be this: "s/he who modifies least, modifies best." Point being, I would probably not myself be cutting open hull elements unless they were (...) (23 years ago, 5-Jul-01, to lugnet.loc.au)

Some never make the transition, those who do slip the bonds of orthodoxy cannot go back. (...) (23 years ago, 5-Jul-01, to lugnet.loc.au)

Re: Falling to the dark side —Richie Dulin
(...) Yes, the stern pieces are the tricky ones. Even if one does succeed in cutting straight down the middle, you'll be effectictively left with two half width keels (is it still the keel that far back & up), which you could space out with bricks, (...)         Re: Falling to the dark side —Richard Parsons
(...) Compatible enough methinks. Issue was more one of cost (believe it or not). At Port Block, we build ships, great big ships. If we want little ships, Lego's 12 wide hulls are entirely fine. If we want big ships, the 16 wides are great. If we (...) (23 years ago, 6-Jul-01, to lugnet.loc.au)
