Yes, at TRU at Garden City Shopping Centre (Mt Gravatt, Brisbane).

Yes, judging solely from the box pictures, I would say that Megabloks are
using fewer specialised pieces than an equivalent Lego set. There seems to
be a high proportion of old-fashioned bricks in these sets. Perhaps all the
Lego purists will have to convert to Megabloks :-)

You read my mind! Indeed, my plan is to build the aircraft carrier and if I
am satisfied with the experience, rush out and buy more Megabloks sets just
for parts. Lots of grey in the battleship and aircraft carrier. Lots of
greens and sand-beige in the tanks. Lots of blue and yellow in the fighter
plane. Etc. Building a solid castle with Megabloks would be a LOT cheaper
than building it with Lego.
