More true confessions.

I too went Lego shopping on Saturday with Mel. We visited about 10 stores
but I found nothing to seriously take my fancy (i.e. large sets). OK, I
bought about 8 sets but they were mostly tiddlers. BTW, shopping with Mel
has definite advantages. She remembers the prices of everything everywhere
and can spot a bargain from halfway across the store. I remember when I was
young enough to remember things ... or maybe I don't remember ... :-)

Shopping in numbers greater than one is a risk to the budget.

Admittedly we did see a Silver Champion at TRU. Well, I saw it. Mel, the
bargain hunter, completely filtered it out. The price (over $300) was a
definite turn-off, despite my predilection for larger sets.

Then, I spotted a Mega Bloks aircraft carrier. 1700+ pieces for $69. So I
decided to take a walk on the wild side. Sorry, Lego, but you gave me no
alternative!

Was the aircraft carrier in TRU ? I have been waiting for it's release here.

I notice that the Lego-System-sized Mega Blok sets (known as "pro-builder"
series) all seemed to have a military theme: battleship, tank, fighter
plane, helicopter. So clearly they are targetting the space that Lego
chooses to avoid. Based on the images on the boxes, some of the Mega Blok
sets lack a little of the Lego finesse in appearance, but then even with
Lego, a set can look better built than on the box cover. However, some (like
the tank) were actually very appealing.

They also have models of a speedboat and a race car and a monster truck.
They definitely have a more 'blocky' appearance.

OK, I may have made the biggest mistake of my life; perhaps I will soon be
bemoaning the outlay of good money on poor quality bricks or whatever. But
at those prices and in the absence of any Lego alternatives, I felt an
experiment was justified. Anyhow I will report back with my experiences.

Grey bricks...a couple more aircraft carriers and you're on your way to
building that castle you had planned.
