Well...The LA "execs" really weren't doing all that much back then...however
they have recently started to improve their handling of LEGO in Oz...We've
returned to a shared UK/Aus catalogue/product range instead of a pruned down
one, they've started an official collectors club [World Club...though it could
do with some additional marketing.(1)] and it may even become possible for the
LA "execs" to contact the Oz groups for the mutual benefit of both...either in
a) marketing (after all, the members of the MUGS, SLUGS, BUGS, TUGS, AdeLUGS,
etc. spend a certain amount of time browsing their local (and sometimes not so
local.(2)) toy areas, and with appropriate information, could probably help
persude people looking at LEGO items to pick the "best" ones, or point people
away from clones to existing LEGO sets...or even give them an idea of what is
due for release, and WHEN it's due for release in Oz)
b) exhibitions/displays...wouldn't it be good if LA would one day ask groups if
they could provide some models in a particular theme/size/whatever for a display
either in a shopping centre or as a part of a world show type event.
Alternatively, passing out promo items, and/or event info to groups would help
spread the word about future items/events from LEGO...and it would be nice if
LEGO would include some mention of/contact info for the local groups that exist
down here...either in the world club magazine, and/or the catalogues available
in shops here.
In comparrison, the US has had an official fan group for 20 years or so, has had
S@H for roughly as long...and this has only just "started to produce positive
results". Something like this in Aus would have been nice, but the closest we
were able to get until recently was a limited supply of spares packs, 1
catalogue per year, and with the use of the internet, news of specials at S@H,
information about many sets only ever released in the USA...would this explain
my dis-satisfaction with the way the LEGO company has been treating the rest of
the world? [Admittedly my emphasis is always Oz, but I'd like to see everywhere
getting equal treatment and range.]

First impressions like "almost every country other than the USA, Canada and
Mexico getting a poor range of items available to them" ?
Just my thoughts...

| Dredging up an old thread (...) I think this is a semantic difference, "shoppers" vs. "market". L A chooses not to serve the A market the way that you would prefer, for whatever reason. Their opinion of particular shoppers may be a small factor but (...) (21 years ago, 3-Sep-03, to lugnet.loc.au)
