  train windows

(...) Even a child would notice that the piece on the order form is not what he got. (...) They know exactly what a train window is. I bet there is a very good reason(s) why they offered transparent thin walls instead. A couple possibilities come to (...) (24 years ago, 21-Jun-00, to lugnet.lego.direct)

  Re: train windows

(...) Not all of them. I know, at 8, I would have noticed as you probably would have also. And my six year old daughter would probably notice also. But my eight year old daughter would probably be oblivious. (...) I think it's much less sinister (...) (24 years ago, 21-Jun-00, to lugnet.lego.direct)

  Re: train windows

(...) Except for one problem - has there EVER been a set with plain clear 1x4x3 thinwalls? No printing at all? What about a set with red-framed, GREEN-paned doors? I don't know of one. Quite a goofup if the accidently cast red frames instead of (...) (24 years ago, 21-Jun-00, to lugnet.lego.direct)

Maybe they goofed before this and bulk ordering was a way to unload the doors. (...) (24 years ago, 21-Jun-00, to lugnet.lego.direct)

  Re: train windows

(...) What about if we restrict the sample to "8 year old kids who would order from Lego Direct"? I bet MOST of those would notice. (24 years ago, 21-Jun-00, to lugnet.lego.direct)

  Re: train windows

(...) You hit the nail on the head, they are almost certainly not making the train glass for the window. (24 years ago, 22-Jun-00, to lugnet.lego.direct)

But they obviously easily COULD - 5542 had train glass for the windows AND doors. (...) -- Tom Stangl ***(URL) Visual FAQ home ***(URL) Bay Area DSMs (24 years ago, 22-Jun-00, to lugnet.lego.direct)

  Re: train windows

(...) I'd guess molding and printing are two, very separate, parts of the production process. They (probably) don't run a single line to mold and print, all in one shot. Instead, they do all the molding in a run, warehouse the pieces for a bit, and (...) (24 years ago, 22-Jun-00, to lugnet.lego.direct)

  Re: train windows

(...) Who cares about the mundanes? Target them and LD will be a flop. We're the heavy users. Give us what we want so we can wow the mundanes, doing free marketing for TLG in the process, and do it in a way that is: - low fixed cost - low variable (...) (...) TLC does or would if they'd do a little anaylsis. I don't think anyone else does. I've heard a lot of numbers batted around. I'd be surprised if we were less than .5% of the total and very surprised if we were more than 10%... But that is an (...) (24 years ago, 26-Jun-00, to lugnet.lego.direct)

I said: (...) and I meant to footnote it but forgot. I first heard this term in the Wall Street Journal in a McDonalds article. The WSJ is not searchable so I can't prove it. However I did find it on an anti-McDonalds site: (URL) (24 years ago, 26-Jun-00, to lugnet.lego.direct)

I find it hard to believe that they're willing to give up the econmies of scale here. How many of us are there? 1000? Compared to the number of children who consume sets one at a time... well, let's do the math: 300 or so million people in the US. (...) (24 years ago, 26-Jun-00, to lugnet.lego.direct)
