Re: Bulk Pricing (Interesting comparison?) —Ed T. Toton III
(...) Time for me to hop on the soapbox too. :) When I first heard they were going to make "bulk" packs available, my hope was that they'd do something like "1000 assorted white" for $30, and so on. The term "bulk" usually implies "large quantities (...) (24 years ago, 14-Feb-01, to lugnet.lego.direct)

Re: Bulk Pricing (Interesting comparison?) —Frank Filz
(...) I don't think it's "obvious" they can do better. I think the buckets and tubs (pretty much only available in the US and Canada I think) are almost a loss leader. I don't think they actually are a loss leader, but I strongly suspect they are (...) (24 years ago, 14-Feb-01, to lugnet.lego.direct)

Re: Bulk Pricing (Interesting comparison?) —Eric Kingsley
(...) Well as far as the overhead I think the two might be closer than you think. There is a lot of air in the Tubs so the tubs take up more space/part plus the lack of packaging on the bulk packs lower their overhead right away. My guess is that (...)         Re: Bulk Pricing (Interesting comparison?) —Doug Finney
A tangentially related question: What happens to the bricks rejected from the system while changing the mold injectors from one color of plastic to another? I already use discolored, heavily scratched or simply "wrong" color bricks as filler in (...) (24 years ago, 14-Feb-01, to lugnet.lego.direct)

Re: Bulk Pricing (Interesting comparison?) —Tom Stangl
(...) AFAIK, they scrap those bricks. I know someone that has about 30 or so "mixed" bricks, and they look REALLY COOL (green/yellow, black/red, blue/pink). As far as we know, the only way he could have gotten them in that bulk lot is if someone AT (...) (24 years ago, 14-Feb-01, to lugnet.lego.direct)

(...) I was wondering that, too, if they'd actually be cool for building in and of themselves but I've never actually seen any.          Re: Bulk Pricing (Interesting comparison?) —Frank Filz
(...) While it would be cool to get these, I don't foresee TLC ever intentionally making them available. Generally manufacturers like to hide this kind of problem as much as possible.          Re: Bulk Pricing (Interesting comparison?) —Scott Edward Sanburn
Frank & All, (...) I don't think this is a problem per say, I would call it more of a plastic injection molding issue.         Re: Bulk Pricing (Interesting comparison?) —Ray Sanders
(...) With the operative word being 'could'. The real question revolves around 'should they ?'. Some of our 'bulk bricks could be had for $x.xx/piece' discussions revolve around the prices seen in blue tubs. Does TLC make sufficient margins on blue (...)
