The last time I was in the factory, there was probably 75 - 80 moulding
machines.  There was also the decorating and assembling lines, along with
the various packing lines.

Never been to the factory, but from the pictures I've seen, that's reasonable.

One thing this will do is make it a LOT more difficult for groups to get
loose bricks for special events, train shows, etc...

Yup :-(  Understanding the true bulk ordering system a few of the NZ AFOLs
got and how long/hard it was to get...doesn't sould too fun.

I hope none of my friends in Enfield are losing their jobs!

Yeah.. :\  I don't believe any of mine would, because they aren't in the
factory end.  Still, I think its sad they've decided to close this plant,
and hope its only temporary.  And I hope some of the expected loss money is
due to the expenses taken on by the restructuring and Lego Direct until they
get reorganized, then it will be back in the black.

I am unclear about what parts of the Enfield plant are closing. Obviously, the
molding facility is closing, but what do they mean by the processing (
http://www.newsday.com/ap/business/ap660.htm ). It was a long time ago (1987)
but there were more than 100 people working in the factory, so if they were
closing the entire, excluding the distribution center, facility I would have
expected that more people would be effected. I hope they are not closing the
whole plant. That would be sad.
