Ironically the very first trademarked items came out 50 years ago this year.
That would be the Esso Service Station accessories. In 1955, with the advent of
the Town Plan TLG produced 3 Esso trucks (#1250/#250 Esso Barrel Tanker,
#1251/#251 Esso Flatbed Truck, #1252/#252 Esso Flatbed Trailer), as well as Esso
Pumps/Sign parts pack (#1247/#231) and an "Esso Service" named beam in the named
beam parts pack (#1224/#226). (Note: first number is set # for northern Europe
from 1955-58, 2nd number is for central Europe from 1956-58, as well as all of
Europe from 1958-65.)
Some of these early Esso sets (#1250, #1251 and #1247) also had what is among
the rarest of all trademarked Lego items.... the 1x1 round bricks (in red or
white) that have the Esso Oil Can Stickers on them. They were only produced for
the Danish market from 1955-58. In great condition, they could sell for $200
each or more.
The first trademarked set would be the Esso Service Set, which came out in late
1956 or early 1957 (#1310/#310).

| Is there any sets where Lego has included references to other trademarked names. One example I can think is Jeep, for the 711 Jeep CJ-5 set. Are the ferries (Stena, Silja), and Maersk, names copyright/trademarks? Any others? Keep on bricking, dave (19 years ago, 12-Jul-05, to lugnet.general)
