Then again, continuity of the series might be lost if one were in a tub while others were in boxes...

I think putting them all in consistent packaging (not tubs - see below for more) is a great idea. Now... getting stores to actually display them all together, so the effect (of similar packaging) can pay off, is another story. It amazes me to walk into otherwise neat LEGO aisles and find sets from the same series spread across multiple shelves up and down the asile.

Plus, using nice rectangular boxes, there has to be some savings in both packaging and shippings costs, isn’t there?

I know! Put them ALL in tubs! ;-)

I love the older style tubs (no giant studs on top) as I’m sure many of us do. But when I see how much space is wasted inside each one I wonder if the type of packaging we’re seeing here (the plain boxes - appropriately sized to the contents) isn’t a better idea. But what do we use for storage?

Two ideas:

1) Continue to offer a bulk tub, full of bricks, outside of this (or any similar series) and thus the tubs are available if you need them.

2) Offer the tubs themselves as an actual SKU. Yes, sell them empty. Sell people empty plastic storage tubs. Sound crazy? The folks at Tupperware don’t think so.

From my point of view, anything that brings some order and consistency to the bulk bricks category is a very very good thing. I also love this idea, of tying bricks to ideas you can download.

This new page shows five new bulk lego sets. They are packed in suitcase style handled boxes, not tubs.

Set numbers include -

4421 (1000 pieces) 4423 (800 ??) 4780 (500) 4781 (300) 4782 (200)

(...) This already exists - there's a yellow tub that is sold empty at LEGO stores and I believe at LLCA too. IIRC they were lampooned on LUGNET ("$X.XX for an empty tub? What are they, nuts?"). Personally I like the big tubs with the studs, just (...) (20 years ago, 22-Jan-05, to lugnet.general, FTX)
