A partial explanation.
When we visited LEGOLAND in Billund for the first time (1992), the LEGO Technic
University was a popular attraction. Kids came in with their parents, selected a
Technic model, and as a family assembled it and ran it on a test course to earn
their diploma certificate. I couldnt imagine the same thing in the US. When
LLCA opened in 1999, they did have an equivalent attraction, but its not
particularly popular and its very rare to see a family build something
together. A cultural difference that Americans could learn from.
