This destroys the backward compatibility. I expect to be let down by companies like Microsoft, but not Lego. I thought the basic tenant of Lego was that it was always compatible, old pieces should always go with with new ones.

How exactly does it destroy backwards compatibility? I can’t imagine that a new 2x4 grey and an old 2x4 grey will go together any differently than a 2x4 white and a 2x4 red - or any other two colors.

(...) Aesthetically they go together very differently. Looking at a wall of grey with a few off-color bricks will cause your eye to be drawn to the ones that are different.
