Color Modifications
As has been pointed out, there have been some modifications to the color
palette. This was done with a great deal of consideration, and for a
couple of very good reasons.
|
This destroys the backward compatibility. I expect to be let down by
companies like Microsoft, but not Lego. I thought the basic tenet of Lego
was that it was always compatible, old pieces should always go with with
new ones.
|
How exactly does it destroy backwards compatibility? I cant imagine that a
new 2x4 grey and an old 2x4 grey will go together any differently than a 2x4
white and a 2x4 red - or any other two colors.

Aesthetically they go together very differently. Looking at a wall of grey with
a few off-color bricks will cause your eye to be drawn to the ones that are
different. Just as 3 red bricks in a wall of white would be instantly noticable.
While there may be times when you are intentionally trying to draw attention to
different colors, there are also times when a solid color wall is desired. The
concern, I think, is that that is now complicated by additional sorting
requirements, and more significantly, by new scarcity issues.
