Re: New colors and other info

(...) This destroys the backward compatibility. I expect to be let down by companies like Microsoft, but not Lego. I thought the basic tenant of Lego was that it was always compatible, old pieces should always go with with new ones. This is another (...) (21 years ago, 18-Nov-03, to lugnet.general, FTX)

Re: New colors and other info

(...) How exactly does it destroy backwards compatibility? I can't imagine that a new 2x4 grey and an old 2x4 grey will go together any differently than a 2x4 white and a 2x4 red - or any other two colors. James (21 years ago, 19-Nov-03, to lugnet.general, FTX)

Re: New colors and other info

(...) Aesthetically they go together very differently. Looking at a wall of grey with a few off-color bricks will cause your eye to be drawn to the ones that are different. Just as 3 red bricks in a wall of white would be instantly noticable. While (...) (21 years ago, 19-Nov-03, to lugnet.general, FTX)

Re: New colors and other info

(...) I meant "Have you actually tried to make the new ones (meaning long studless beams) connect end to end?" You'd have to use 2 1/2 wide lift arms, 4 3L axles and eight bushes instead of 2 1xn plates like you do with the old ones. Steve (21 years ago, 19-Nov-03, to lugnet.general)

(...) Well, you could do something like this: (URL) or build a truss like so: (URL) or: (URL) Probably not quite as strong as the technic bricks, though. Cheers, Mark FUT lugnet.technic (21 years ago, 19-Nov-03, to lugnet.general, lugnet.technic, FTX)

  New Technic beams?

(...) Aren't those just liftarms? The regular technic beams are still being made, afaik.... >> Mark (21 years ago, 19-Nov-03, to lugnet.general)

  Re: New Technic beams?

(...) nope, technically they are "studless beams" if they are full-thickness and "halfbeams" if they are half-thickness Liftarms contain 1 or more cross axle holes. (21 years ago, 19-Nov-03, to lugnet.general)

Re: New colors and other info

(...) These are excellent examples of how to use the studless beams, full-width liftarms, or whatever you want to call them. I use this type of connection (studs-in-holes) quite often, and I'm pleased with the results. I hate to dig up a sore (...) (21 years ago, 20-Nov-03, to lugnet.technic)
