Items I'm donating to the 2003 Echo Base Charity Con

I was contacted by a Dutch Star Wars fan club, the Echo Base Foundation about possibly donating some MOCs to their charity con later this month. This year, the Make a Wish Foundation will be the beneficiary of all profits generated by the event. (...) (22 years ago, 11-Sep-03, to lugnet.starwars, lugnet.general, lugnet.space, FTX) !

Re: Did Bricklink make Lego bulk sales irrelevent?

(...) O yes we do, don't worry. Burnt my fingers on this issue many times when I was in the USA in 2001 ;) I just meant that a 2 hour drive isn't something that's impossible to overcome. Right now I drive over 400 miles most friday nights just to go (...) (22 years ago, 11-Sep-03, to lugnet.general)

Re: Did Bricklink make Lego bulk sales irrelevent?

Yeah, but you get to skip most of the Bay Area by taking 5 - normally, at least the first hour of my trip to LLC from Sunnyvale was just getting to 152 to get to 5. Sometimes 2 hours. Once I made it to 5, I flew - made it in 5.5 hours once, from my (...) (22 years ago, 11-Sep-03, to lugnet.general)

Re: Did Bricklink make Lego bulk sales irrelevent?

(...) Yep, I was surprised when it was mentioned in the other thread they are opening one in Glendale. Why not Northern California? Assuming Tom lived somewhere around San Jose that would make my distance from LLC over 500 miles. And having to drive (...) (22 years ago, 11-Sep-03, to lugnet.general)

Re: Did Bricklink make Lego bulk sales irrelevent?

(...) Yeah, I hear that. I hope they eventually put a LEGO store in King of Prussia Mall or Franklin Mills Mall. Those two are up there pretty high on list of the largest malls on the East coast. (...) Yeah that has been a recurring dream of mine (...) (22 years ago, 11-Sep-03, to lugnet.general)

Re: Did Bricklink make Lego bulk sales irrelevent?

You know, there's always a lot of talk in the news about how well Europeans know geography and Americans don't. But soooo many Europeans just don't seem to grok the scale of the US, the distances that can be involved. My nearest LIC is in Orlando. (...) (22 years ago, 11-Sep-03, to lugnet.general)

  Tactfulness, & respect

I just recently (about an hour or so ago) posted on Bricklink Forum, about how we're treating each other, & how no one seems to care for other AFOL's (& ChildFOL's too) feelings anymore. How we seem to rather tell someone something bad, then (...) (22 years ago, 11-Sep-03, to lugnet.general)

Re: Did Bricklink make Lego bulk sales irrelevent?

(...) That's what I need to drive to Cologne as well, but it's well worth it. There's one closer, but with a more limited assortment. However I've got a feeling that if things really work out we'll no doubt see more. Germany is getting it's third (...) (22 years ago, 10-Sep-03, to lugnet.general)

Re: Did Bricklink make Lego bulk sales irrelevent?

(...) Not really. With Bricklink there's never any guarantee about availability of a certain part. But right now the two together usually make for a good supply of just about anything you want. (...) Yes, Bricklink is nice for small quantities but (...) (22 years ago, 10-Sep-03, to lugnet.general, lugnet.market.theory)

Re: Did Bricklink make Lego bulk sales irrelevent?

(...) There's slews of costs. The biggest one is overhead. Something has to pay for your free S@H catalogs, the nice woman on the phone you phone your order in to, the OTHER people who work there to make sure you talked to that woman quickly instead (...)   Re: Did Bricklink make Lego bulk sales irrelevent?

. (...) But you haven't thought about the volume buying large-scale retailers have done. They have excess inventory so they can reduce the price on it so cheaply that other buyers like Troy can get sets for reduced cost. Its a shame on one hand, on (...)   Re: Did Bricklink make Lego bulk sales irrelevent?

(...) i dont understand what you mean here.. cost of brick, as i understand it is Cost to Manufacture, then part out into sets (which should be saved since its bulk), then cost of shipping.   Re: Did Bricklink make Lego bulk sales irrelevent?

(...) There are two other explanations; one, the cost per brick when parting is lower regardless of any hidden costs, or two, which is what I believe, it's not really possible for a BL seller to charge more than Lego Bulk prices, regardless of their (...)   Re: Did Bricklink make Lego bulk sales irrelevent?

(...) I have noticed this trend as well. Perhaps a bricklink seller will inform me of this question - Do sellers ever stockpile a part and just sit on it - knowing that it could be very valuable in the future? Case in point - the brown shovel in the (...) (22 years ago, 10-Sep-03, to lugnet.general, lugnet.market.theory)

Re: Did Bricklink make Lego bulk sales irrelevent?

As Brad has mentioned several times, they're limited to a certain amount of SKU's they can use, so there likely won't ever be a selection of 500 different pieces, all available in bulk (...)   Re: Did Bricklink make Lego bulk sales irrelevent?

(...) If something is available both at S@H and BL, I will typically get it via S@H. Mostly a matter of convenience. S@H takes my Visa.   Re: Did Bricklink make Lego bulk sales irrelevent?

(...) Its the "magic" of Clearance. A high volume purchaser like Troy is able to afford to eat up the inventory, plus he is able to buy at the wholesale level, making it even cheaper for the brick. Heck, if you could get a ton of sets at 75% off, (...) (22 years ago, 10-Sep-03, to lugnet.general, lugnet.market.theory)
