I got to work this morning and was ready to catch up on last night's LUGNET post while I had my morning Dr. Pepper and what do I find out?! My company's proxy server is now blocking "web chatting" sites, basicly all news servers (plus internet (...) (22 years ago, 26-Jun-02, to lugnet.general)

JT, I hear ya! Perhaps you could argue the fact that you are a main character in the Train group you are involved in and that staying involved and up to date is a neccesity for the better of the group, not to mention being a liason between the Train (...) OUCH! They took away yahoo, hotmail, and all the other web-based e-mail from my company, but fortunately, they haven't blocked lugnet or e-bay just yet... keeping my fingers crossed. One other solution (if you don't have an ISDN phone like I do..) (...) (22 years ago, 26-Jun-02, to lugnet.general)

Nope, they fully restrict almost all ports that would allow me to connect via NNTP, I can't even FTP, or connect to my MAIL server directly (i have to use sites like WEB2MAIL.com to get my personal email) There is also a rule in the guidelines that (...) (22 years ago, 27-Jun-02, to lugnet.general)

(...) Too bad about NNTP. Did you try all of the alternate ports like 8000 and 8080 and whatever the rest of them are? It is probably not a bandwidth issue but more of a lost-time issue. Labor is pretty expensive (offices, equipment, supplies, (...) (22 years ago, 27-Jun-02, to lugnet.general)

I too recently experienced trouble with accessing LUGNET from a university system. I suspected the implementation of some network traffic software that prioritizes information and file transfers. I thought that the browser was simply timing out (...) (22 years ago, 27-Jun-02, to lugnet.general)

Yippie! I got it back....kind of :) I set up Microsoft Terminal Server on my home machine and now I'm connecting to it using it's direct IP address and then browsing the web from there. The only concern is the fact that I don't have a static IP (...) (22 years ago, 28-Jun-02, to lugnet.general)
