LEGO stops DUPLO —Arne Lykke Nielsen
It has just been annonced on the Danish News, that Lego has stopped making DUPLO. A new concept for the 2-6 year old children, Explorer, will be introduced this autumn. No more DUPLO?!? My 3 year old niece will be devastated, she loves her DUPLO! (...) (22 years ago, 13-May-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.duplo) !!

My 2 1/2 year old won't be too happy ... and neither will I, as it'll mean she'll want to play with my "proper" LEGO more often! I don't know how (...)         Re: LEGO stops DUPLO —Bryan Kinkel
Can anyone else confirm this story? My 19 month old daughter loves her Duplo bricks. She often gets frustrated with other toys and figures because they don't fit together! I can't imagine Lego dropping Duplo for another "system" of toys for (...) (22 years ago, 14-May-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.duplo)

Re: LEGO stops DUPLO - PRESS RELEASE —Deidre Rushton Brumby

The press release has just appeared at lego.com, Duplo name is going but apparently the bricks themselves will remain: May 14 2002 LEGO DUPLO brand disappears - but bricks live on One of the fundamental changes in connection with the LEGO (...)          Re: LEGO stops DUPLO - PRESS RELEASE —Bryan Kinkel
Deidre, Thanks for posting the press release... I will be interested to see what Lego brings to the table in June. I wonder if Lego feels having sub-brands, such as Duplo, Primo, System, etc. dilutes the message and power of the main "LEGO" brand? (...)          Re: LEGO stops DUPLO —Richie Dulin
(...) Although the compatibility of Duplo with System has been emphasised by LEGO, in practice, they are seperate entities. Next to no Duplo elements appear in System (there's a Duplo cradle in 2002 Belville IIRC), and no System elements appear in (...) (22 years ago, 14-May-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.duplo)

Re: LEGO stops DUPLO —Deidre Rushton Brumby
(...) I think that's a big part of the problem for Lego, there is a big second hand market for Duplo for precisely those reasons: It's very expensive new (significantly cheaper of late but still expensive overall), and once the kids grow out of it (...)      (...) Hmmm. I don't think I'm in the majority of afol's who get the Duplo for themselves... Yes it's sad that Duplo is being 'discontinued' but it's not being wiped off the planet.      While my interest in DUPLO is pretty small, the fact that Lego is dropping it is both encouraging and discouraging. Are they doing it to optimize their products for the current market? Or are they just writing off an old (...) (22 years ago, 14-May-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.duplo)
